A very nice surpriseI bought an Ovation CC026 from amazon.com in August 2005. Actually I did not play it before buying. I decided to buy it because of its price. It was about $ 320 including tax, hovever also included a hard case worth $90. When I got the package, I was shocked with the quality of the case. Excellent. Considering the necessity of a case for an ovation, the guitar itself did cost only $230.
It sounded very clear, loud, typical famous ovation sound. I have to admit that my 25 years old vintage Yamaha FG-200D sounds better acoustically, but you can not plug it in. And that's the real deal. When plugged in, Ovation is something else. It has a distinctive sound and very easy to play. Low action makes it so easy, it's like an electric guitar. Equilizer makes sound adjustment a pleasure. The only difficulty is its' tendency to slip through your leg due to its' rounded back shape. You need a strap hanging all the time.
Build quality? Perfect. I don't think it's US version is better. If you think laminated spruce top is not favorable, you're wrong. My Yamaha has also laminated spruce top, and it does sound better after 25 years.
